The Scheme

Students starting at Chesterton in Year 7 in September 2016

Students will not have a tablet device at the beginning of Year 7 and will not have the option to bring one in. Many of you said that Year 7 students already have a lot to do to get to know the school and to settle into life at secondary school and senior staff and governors recognise this.

After this settling in period we will loan students in Year 7 a device from October half term until the end of the academic year.

Students who will be in Year 8 in September 2016

We want all Year 8 students to have a personal iPad Mini, or compatible iPad family device, for use at school and at home during Years 8, 9, 10, and 11. We need your help, however, to fund them and we are writing to parents to ask for their assistance on this.  The options will include:

  • Make your own arrangements to provide your child with an iPad-family device for use at school
  • Make a lump-sum or monthly donation to the school. The advantage of this is that the school can claim Gift Aid at 25% on donations.

Students who will be in Year 9, 10 & 11 in September 2016

Students in Years 9, 10 and 11  will have already been in the scheme for a period and will continue to use their personal device through years 10 and 11.

If you choose to provide your child with their own device, it must be one of the iPad family of devices. Therefore, for examlpe, it can not be an Android tablet, an iPhone or an iPod.

It is very important that all students use a device that can run the same software, and access the same infrastructure, as everyone else. This allows teachers to be able to plan lessons with an expectation of certain features and uses being accessed by all.

Currently the list of iPad devices are:

  • iPad (limited functionality)
  • iPad2
  • iPad mini
  • New iPad (retina display)
  • iPad Air
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3

If and when Apple release the next generation of the Apple iPad (for example the iPad 5 etc) that will also be supported by the school and will be allowed to be used.
