Jade G won the Wee Wonders Golf Championship at end of August and became a ‘British Champion’ for her year group. Each of the 18 competitors had won a regional qualifier in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales to earn a place at the Grand Final at St Andrews, the ‘Home of Golf’.
Jade has been selected a member of the England Golf girls training squad since 2012. Since the last school sport report, she has been working hard on bringing her handicap down to 6.
Jade was also the runner up in the Young Sports Performer of the Year category at this year’s ‘LIVING SPORT’ awards, sponsored by the Cambridge Evening News.
Robert M currently represents the Eastern Counties rugby team and the Northampton Saints Academy. His recent performances have earned him an opportunity to be selected for the England under 16 rugby team – watch this space!
After starting to play rugby only two years ago, Leonardo C recently made his debut for Cambridgeshire County under 14 rugby team! His selection is a reward for all of his hard work.
Daniel P and Lewis E are part of the very talented under 15 district football team, which is currently progressing through the rounds of the national football cup. The ability of the team suggests that a place in the later stages of the competition is a very realistic target.
County junior hockey development squad
The following students have been selected for the Cambridgeshire hockey development squad – we wish them luck as the full county squad is chosen in December.
County Young Coach Academy
Lydia H and Eve S were successful in their application to join the newly formed County Young Coach Academy. This is a new initiative which aims to increase the opportunities for high quality coaching for young people.
School Games Success
The college badminton and table tennis teams started where they left off in last year’s competition – with a win!
The college won the multi-sport competition last year with success in basketball, badminton, table tennis, golf, tennis and netball. The students have set the standard for our other teams to follow throughout the rest of the academic year.
Ellen G was recently in a quad which won at the Ely head race over a 3k course, and last weekend at the Star Rowing Club head race in Bedford. She won in a quad, over.
This head race was attended by clubs from throughout the region from Broxbourne, Nottingham, Norwich and Lincoln.
Varsity rugby match
The college rugby teams from year 7, 8 and 9 have the opportunity to travel to Twickenham for the annual varsity rugby match on December 12th. This is always a great event for the students – ask your son for details.
