John’s Story
During the 2nd World War, “I “ was in Northen Ireland in the Home Guard. There was no conscription in Northern Ireland. I had American airmen staying with me and if they (the Americans) went into Ireland they had to go in their civvy clothes. (It was reported that some people in Ireland, which was independent sent Christmas cards to Hitler). After the war, I returned to Cambridge where we ran a fish and chip shop in Norfolk street.
