Week Ending 5th October 2018
This week finishes with our Open Evening: a great opportunity to showcase school life.
The Abu Bakr Jamai Mosque on Mawson Road in Cambridge has kindly donated a class set of English translations of the Qur’an to be used to support scripture analysis in RE lessons. We are very grateful for their support. If there are any local religious groups who are able to donate class sets of their Holy Book, we would love to hear from them.
Our ‘National Poetry Day’ competition opens this Thursday — best poem prize for each year group. This year’s theme is ‘change’. Entries (one per student) can be handed to the Library or to Mr New. Closes 19th Oct. Shortlisted poems will be published to a dedicated website.
House competitions continued this week where the students took part in ‘Chesterton does Countdown’. The classic programme was brought to life by all five houses; Robinson reigned supreme winning by ten points! In second place was Hill, followed by Fawcett, Cavendish and then Equiano. Fawcett lead by 25 points after three competitions!’
Friday, Oct. 12 is Bingo Night at Chesterton. If you haven’t been to the PTA bingo night before, come along and bring the whole family.
Doors open to the Rex Freeman Hall at 7pm for everyone to stock up on drinks and snacks from the cash bar, ready their dabbers and get settled. The first game starts around 7:30pm. Your dazzling host and caller for the evening will be the irrepressible Tim Spencer.
There will be lots of chances to win fun prizes during all ten bingo games AND a raffle at the end of the evening.
ParentMail is now open for you to book your tickets and reserve your spot. The ticket price includes a bingo booklet with ten games. There will also be extra booklets and raffle tickets for sale throughout the evening.
Tickets for adults are £8.50 and students/OAP tickets are £5, available on ParentMail now.
If you would rather pay at the door on the night, no problem! Tickets at the door are £9 for adults and £5 for students/OAP.
All proceeds will directly support projects funded by the PTA.
29 of our Year 9 students have just completed the first leg of our annual exchange visit with the Kurpfalz Gymasium in Schriesheim near Heidelberg and were the first to host. Our exchange partners visited the sights in Cambridge and London, spent a day with us in school and went to the Norfolk coast where they enjoyed a walk on the beach, a tour of Holkham Hall and most memorably fish and chips! The weekend was spent with Year 9 students and their families.
Thank you to all parents, carers and students who welcomed a German student into their homes over the last week and contributed to the success of our exchange programme. We are really looking forward to our return visit to Germany in November.
The first Teatime Concert of the year will take place on Tuesday 9th October at 3.45pm in M1. This showcases our new Y7 students and all are welcome to come and support. Refreshments provided! Any remaining Y7s who would like to sign up must see Miss Wilson by Monday at the latest.
